The representation of scenes of sexual intercourse, such as this portrayal of an act of copulation between a man and a woman, was perhaps more common in pre-Hispanic art than what the few known objects would have us believe. Spanish chroniclers left testimonies of the wholesale destruction of such objects because they were considered sinful.
